Sports Consultant, Jamal Smith, speaking at the launch of the Cricket Captains Programme.

Sports Consultant, Jamal Smith, said the Cricket Captains programme will focus on three main components - mental skills and communication, tactics and management.

He made the comments as the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment launched the first cohort of the programme, in which 23 young men are taking part.

Russell Moseley will focus on the mental skills aspects and communication, whilst tactical knowledge will be imparted by Smith and former Barbados and West Indies player Sherwin Campbell, and Shirley Clarke will facilitate the management aspect.

Smith said the intensive six weeks course will also have inputs from the Umpires Association about the rules and procedures of the game, including getting through overs and penalties in cricket.

He also stressed that there will be video analysis, tips on picking teams, how to conduct yourself, the criteria needed for captaincy and how to deal with the opposition.

Smith indicated that the Cricket Captains course will be in person and online and is designed to produce future Barbados and West Indies captains.
