In honour of Global Entrepreneurship Week, the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme (YES) is hosting its inaugural public lecture entitled, Entrepreneurship Unleashed: A Catalyst for Social and Economic Development in the Caribbean on Friday, November 22nd, from 7:00 p.m. at the Walcott Warner Theatre of the Errol Barrow Centre for Creative Imagination.

Featured Presenter, Dr. Kadamawe Knife, Director of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Thinking and Practice and Lecturer and Researcher at the Mona School of Business and Management, paid a courtesy call this morning, to the Honourable Charles Griffith, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment at his Sky Mall, Haggatt Hall, St. Michael office.

Following the introductions of the Ministry’s officials present by Acting Permanent Secretary, Joy Adamson, Manager of YES, Ryan Moseley, spoke enthusiastically about the lecture and Dr. Knife’s invaluable role as the feature speaker.

Moseley emphasized that the team is ‘extremely privileged’ to host Dr. Knife, given his ability to ‘transcend so many different areas and can deliver them in a way that the average man can understand and appreciate’, and his vast knowledge base. Dr. Knife’s dynamic background, and his country of birth, Jamaica, are additional attributes that further substantiated his selection to deliver the lecture.

Moseley noted that Dr. Knife can use examples from Jamaica and juxtapose those findings to Barbados and the wider Caribbean, which strategically aligns with the lecture’s theme.

His sentiments were echoed by Minister Griffith, who alluded to his vast body of work aligning with the Ministry’s programmes, initiatives and opportunities in terms of empowering people and communities.

He also expressed a keen interest in the research Dr. Knife conducts to examine how it can contribute to determining the Ministry’s wider strategy and the enhancement of its programmes and initiatives.

Dr. Knife fully embraced the welcome extended by the Minister and Ministry officials during the courtesy call.

He examined the guiding principles of sustainable business development, the importance of empowering persons and communities as a means of crime prevention and promoting conflict resolution techniques, during his hour-long dialogue with the staff.
