Fourteen students of the Ann Hill School have now completed the Pathways Employability Programme.
A specially tailored 10 week Pathways Programme, was created to facilitate the students at Ann Hill School. It was specially designed to meet their needs while still ensuring adequate preparation for their next steps into the world of work.
Speaking at the ceremony which was held on February 26th at the Courtyard by Marriott, Principle of Ann Hill, Mrs. Emelda Bell, noted that "many times students with special educational needs are left behind or regarded as an afterthought when it comes to opportunities for personal and professional development, however, programmes like the Pathways Employability Programme represent a significant leap towards inclusion and the empowerment of our students who will be the adults of tomorrow."
Students learned about topics such as Budgeting, Saving, Punctuality, Interview Preparation, Communication and Appropriate Clothing.
Mrs. Bell also stated that some of the students who participated in the Pathways Programme also had the opportunity to put those learned skills to the test as interns in the Ann Hill Work Experience Programme.
Mrs. Joy Adamson, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment also gave the feature address at the graduation.
She noted that this was the second iteration of the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment's collaboration with Ann Hill School but it would certainly not be the last.
"The Ministry continues to execute programming utilizing this all inclusive approach to ensure that young persons such as these are exposed to the relevant training so that [they] will then be able to transition easily into the workforce," she added.
The proud graduates were presented with their certificates of completion while being cheered on by their family, facilitators and teachers.
